- First, measure the width and height of the door opening to get a rough opening.
- Then, measure the space to the space needed for the garage door track.
- Measure the headroom or distance between the top of the opening and the ceiling.
- Finally, measure the distance from the garage door opening to the back wall of your garage to find the backroom. Most garages will need a backroom that equals the height of the garage door with an additional 18 inches.
