Founded by Garry Stewart in 1978. Run by his son Shawn today. More than four decades of Puget Sound garage doors, and the phone still gets answered in Kent.
Our story
Garry Stewart was born in the Kent Valley in 1952 and lived in this city his whole life. In 1978 he started fixing and installing garage doors, incorporated The Doorman Service Co. in 1980, and built it into the company Puget Sound has trusted with its doors ever since. We moved into our first commercial shop in the 1980s, right around the corner from where we are now, and settled into our current home on Railroad Ave in 1994.
Shawn Stewart, Garry's youngest son, grew up in the business and took over daily operations in 2015. When Garry passed away in 2024, the company he built kept doing what it has always done: residential and commercial doors, installed and repaired the right way, by people who answer their own phone.
Same family. Same city. Same standard.

Since 1978
A Kent Valley native starts selling, installing and repairing garage doors for his neighbors.
The company incorporates, and the name Puget Sound still calls has been on the trucks ever since.
The business moves into its first commercial property, right around the corner from where we are today.
We move to 404 Railroad Ave N in downtown Kent, the shop we still work out of today.
Shawn Stewart, Garry's youngest son, takes over daily operations after growing up in the business.
Garry passed away in 2024. The company he built keeps serving Puget Sound the way he taught it to, and keeps his name in the industry through the work Shawn continues.
An industry legacy
Garry served on the board of the International Door Association and was elected its president, serving from 2003 to 2005. He joined the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation as a director in 2006 and served as IDEA's president in 2014, making him one of only two people ever to lead both organizations.
He was among IDEA's first Accredited Door Dealers, Sanctioned Trainers and Master Technicians, and from 2014 to 2020 he volunteered as faculty for IDEA's two-day schools, teaching the next generation of door professionals across seven IDA Expos.
That standard of professionalism is the one this company was built on, and the one Shawn carries forward as he takes up the same industry service today.
More than a member
Leadership in the door industry runs in the family. Shawn is taking up the same industry service his father gave for decades, keeping this company close to the people who write the standards for safe, professional door work.
Born here, built here, still here. From the Kent Valley industrial corridor to East Hill, this has been our home town for the company's entire life.
We sponsor 20 City of Kent Parks and Recreation teams every year, five each quarter, and we back the Kent Police Ball Drop benefiting Bluebridge Alliance, a tradition we plan to keep annual.

Who we are today
We handle everything a garage door needs: helping you choose it, installing it precisely, keeping it running with honest repairs, and stocking the parts it needs along the way. We are proud to be a Clopay Master Authorized Dealer, Clopay's highest dealer tier, held by a limited group of installers the factory itself vouches for, and we also install and service Amarr, SteelCraft, Wayne Dalton, R&S Manufacturing and LiftMaster products.
We are dedicated to providing professional garage door and opener installation and services, delivering prompt, courteous service.
